Hydro Electric Power

Main Benefits of Hydro Renewable Energy:Hydro Electric Power

  • Reduce your electricity bills (very predictable levels of energy savings because these turbines operate 24/7)

  • Get paid for unused power from your electricity supplier (you may have to change suppliers to get the best rates)

  • Inflation-proof power generation on-site (the cost to produce your own power is not affected by increases in power costs from your electricity supplier)

  • Low noise, high output design produces a smooth yet powerful output, in both high and low water head conditions.

  • Rugged and simple construction and easy to maintain.

  • 2500W WindyBoy Inverter supplied for connection to the "mains" supply of your property.

  • Unique 3-phase Permanent Magnet Generator with temperature sensor at the heart of each hydro turbine, producing reliable and predictable performance in all operating modes.

The MiniWater 2200W Grid-Tie range of Hydro turbines are designed for use on locations next to steep, small streams/rivers, where a continuous power output can be generated. Specifically designed to be connected to your "mains" electricity supply, these Hydro turbines are supplied with a very user friendly, robust power controller and 2500W WindyBoy Inverter.

Each Grid-Tie MiniWater Hydro turbine kit contains everything you require to carry out a "self install" of the system (except the main feed pipe). Refer to our detailed instructions relating to making connection to your electricity supply, where you will find details of what you can and cannot self-install. This will also detail what items you will need to supply in order to complete the installation. Please note, your stream or small river should have a "drop" of at least 10m, and a "flow rate" of at least 10 litres per second, before a MiniWater turbine becomes viable. Your site must be professionally surveyed prior to carrying out this kind of installation, in order to correctly design the turbine to suit your water resources. See "site survey" pricing below.

We offer a nationwide installation service (mainland UK) for those who wish to have their turbine professionally installed, or you can choose to have your system professionally "commissioned" once you have completed the pipe-work installation yourself. These options give you the flexibility of full DIY, if you have skills to do so, or to have your turbine fitted by the professionals.

The MiniWater Grid-Tie Hydro system is ideally suited to remote, hilly locations where there are steep fast flowing streams/small rivers. Planning permission from your local authority is generally required for this type of Hydro installation.

A refundable "Site Survey" is required, whereby we will arrange for a technical expert from the Renewable Energy Industry to assess your site for suitability for hydro power (or other technologies offered on our site). This will give you peace of mind, knowing that you won’t spend money on technology that is unsuitable for your location (site surveys typically carried out within 28 days of purchase and are available in Mainland UK only). This survey fee will be refunded on purchase of your energy system.

Commissioning + Installation Note:

The Hydro Turbine Installation service would typically cost between £1400 and £2000, with the "commissioned only" service being £400 typically. Please note that the charge for commissioning and installation will be paid directly to our designated installer, The Solar Energy Alliance.
